Top 10 FREE activities to do during February half term
We all know that the school holidays can get expensive, with day trips, to extra snacks, so we have the top ten FREE activities that you can do with your children this school holiday.
School holidays, oh how we all feel differently about school holidays. At the start of the holidays, we can’t wait for the children to be home, and to spend time doing activities with them. By the end of the holidays, we are ready for them to go back to school, even the half term ones sometimes. That’s before we even talk about how expensive they can get with all of those days trips. Or what if you have to work? We’re not all lucky and get the school holidays off.
Well, that’s where we can step in: TLE Sports Coaching. Here at TLE Sports Coaching we offer Active Camps for the school holidays. It is £20 for the school hours of 8.30am-3.30pm, with a number of different activities on offer, such as inflatable fun, nerf battles, laser tag, tournament days and so much more. Due to our growing popularity the spaces seem to go fast, but that’s okay. We can offer some free alternatives for those who can’t attend.
Unfortunately in the half terms, we do not have fully funded spaces available. If you have booked via a fully funded space before, you will be sent a discount code for 50% off the session.
So, we are here to help! We are going to give you the top 10 free activities to be able to do with your children this school holiday, no matter the weather! There will be a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities for you to choose from.
- A trip to the local play park. As a parent, we can sometimes forget that the activities we do don’t need to be big and expensive, but that they just need to be some quality parent time together. We get so busy in out day to day lives, that we don’t often get to visit the play park, so children love the chance to run around and to show how high they can go on the swings since the last time they were there.
- Make a blanket fort. Who doesn’t love a blanket fort? All you need is a couple of chairs, and some blankets. Once it is built you can use it for all sorts of activities, but creating it is a big one first. You can play board games in there, have it in the front room, and chill while you watch a film, or even have a camp night and sleep in there. The possibilities are endless.
- In February Half Term 2026 we have Pancake Day on the Tuesday. Why not have some pancakes, and have a chat about all of the toppings you could have? Maybe you could have a taste test and see which ones taste the best, or maybe you could do some pancake races in the garden? Balance a ball, or similar, in the pan and race around the garden – the winner gets the first pancake.
- A Junk Modelling day. We often have more arts and crafts material in our houses than we think. We could turn the cardboard recycling into a new version of a Pac-Man, or into a robot that helps with the chores around the house. This is the perfect chance for your children to be creative and imaginative. We also do arts and crafts at the Active Camps, so we know how much children enjoy getting stuck into this free activity!
- Use the local library. The library is free of charge and home to a number of different adventures. This is perfect for children of all ages, and they even sometimes have sessions on where you can join in, like a singing session, or like a baby/toddler session. The older children can encourage the younger ones or have a sit and read while you spend quality time with the younger children, reading to them.
- At home cooking school. The snacks keep coming when we’re at home. It’s almost as though the children have a different stomach during the holidays than when they are at school. When they’re at school, they have the set times, at home, they’re always hungry. You could turn this into quality time together and as you’re making the snacks, get the children involved in making their own.
- Woodland Walk. We live in the gorgeous countryside, and we are so lucky to be surrounded by stunning fields, and woodlands. There is Ninesprings in Yeovil, or King Alfred’s Tower in Bruton, the Tor in Glastonbury, and likely so many more that haven’t been mentioned. Wrap the children up (we’ve not had the best weather lately) but go out and get some fresh air. You may have more washing, but your children will love the chance to explore and see new places. It will be so worth it!
- Have an at home movie cinema night. Have your children choose the movie and create a poster for it to be hung on the cinema (front room) door. Don’t forget that you’ll need some tickets, and some snacks. Maybe, some you made earlier on (number 6). You could even do this in your fort (number 2). There are so many possibilities.
- When was the last time you sat and drew with your child? Why not do some drawing and have a competition? You could design a new world, or the robot who does the chores for you, or something that the child loves. Why not sit and draw and compare the difference between your ideas and your child’s?
- How about a challenge day? The chores will mount up if they are not done, due to spending time with your children, the best thing you can do! Why not challenge them, and get them involved in the chores? Beccy races her daughter to tidy up the washing into the baskets, and her daughter to dust the skirting boards whilst she dusts the mantlepiece and shelves, her daughter usually wins 😉 Why not see who can get the dirtiest duster, or who leaves the best hoover lines, or even who does the most steps while tidying up?
We have just listed the top 10 free activities to do during the school holidays to ensure that the children enjoy the holidays!
We would love to see photos of you and your children partaking in these activities, so save the post that led you to this blog and pop them in the comments.
If you have any you would like us to add to the list, please send an email to admin@tlesportscoaching.co.uk where Beccy will be making an updated list.
Most importantly, have fun and make memories for you and your children in the best way you can. They will love just having time with you while they’re young.
