Alternative Provision
Our Mentoring Programme offers an excellent Alternative Provision for young people from KS1-3 who require a different educational pathway from their peers. We understand that mainstream school settings may not always meet their needs to a range of external factors, which can create barriers to learning such as challenging behaviour, low attendance, underachievement, and the risk of exclusion, either temporarily or permanently. We believe that there is a pathway for everyone to learn.
Sport is a unique and powerful platform for mentoring young people, fostering meaningful relationships and shaping character. It creates seamless opportunities to have valuable conversations and creates a multitude of doors to develop crucial life skills like confidence, respect, teamwork and resilience.
Our alterative provision will create an environment aimed at fostering development and equipping students with these essential skills to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Session Details
Week 1) Introduction; opportunity to build relationships and connections with students.
This session will allow time for learning about what the children enjoy, dislike, subjects they love, hobbies, learning about their background with family, trusted individuals and friends.
This session will create the foundation for the provision given so every programme can be tailored to the children taught.
Week 2) Share and teach a hobby.
This can be sone with the children sharing a hobby and teaching the teacher and vice versa. Further developing the relationship between teacher and child which absolutely crucial in building trust.
Week 3) Shield of identity
We explore who we are, what matters to us, likes, dislike and then design a shield with paints, colours and materials from an arts and crafts box to personalise. Materials can also be found through a scavenger hunt through the school and forest school grounds. This will develop a strong sense of self and build self-esteem.
Week 4) Mindful decision making
Stop. Breathe. Think. This three step approach will be taught in this lesson to help slow down the child and allow them to become grounded. They will then be able to make a better decision with their actions.
Week 5) Random Acts of Kindness
This session gives the children the opportunity to show kindness in a variety of ways and, most importantly, underlines to them the positive impact they can have on people around them. This builds confidence and a positive identity.
Week 6) Buddy Week
This session will create the opportunity for the child to bring a friend with them to the activities and explore ways to build and nurture positive relationships. Underline sharing, thoughtfulness and empathy.
Week 7) Affirmations
A day focussed on building confidence and learning about the children’s identity. Starting with that the children feel most positive about themselves and one thing they would develop. This can be scaffolded with the teacher. I AM STRONG, I CAN TRY DIFFICULT CHALLENGES, I AM RESILIENT, I MATTER!
Week 8) The Wellness Circuit – The Ladder of Destiny!
This is a highly physical session and challenging the children’s movements and working on improving resilience when something is hard.
Week 9) Planets of Emotions
Create a solar system of Planets. Each planet represents a different emotion and the teacher and the child work together to talk through how each emotion feels and when we visit that planet, how we cope and have strategies to manage those emotions. Then we will make a lanyard with cards attached to show each planet. When approaching an activity or situation, we can hold up which planet we are visiting and then on the back of picture are the tools to help us cope.
Week 10) Identifying Emotion
This session will start with watching a variety of sports videos that highlight different emotions. We would then walk through what and why they are showing these emotions. This can then be a platform to talk through how we manage our emotions.
Week 11) Group Problem Solving – Team Building
The child can choose up to 3-4 friends and with this group we would then work on different challenges like the Human Knot and crossing the river games.
Week 12) Mindful Movement
A session centered around walking through the school grounds and being very intentional about being mindful of everything that surrounds them. How each space makes them feel and understand why.
A review will then take place underlining successes, developing points and then setting focused SMART goals for clear next steps.
